Birmingham Area Near Top of Pack in Affordable Homes

Birmingham now ranks third in the nation for affordable housing, outpacing at least seven other Southeastern cities. According to a study of the nation's largest 50 metro areas conducted by American City Business Journals, parent company of the Birmingham Business Journal, the metro area's median monthly housing payment was $753, taking a little over 20 percent of local homeowners' median monthly household income of $3,711. …read more

Home builder confidence up in August

A confidence index among home builders inched up in August to its highest level in a year.    

The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index reached 18 this month, which was its highest since June 2008, said a news release.

Birmingham named Great Retirement City by Kiplinger
Low cost of living, abundant sunshine and world-class golfing put Birmingham in the Top 10 for Great Retirement Cities, according to Kiplinger. The online business publication touted the Magic City's "huge Dixie charm" and tax breaks for the elderly, and said the city's biggest selling point was big-city living at a discount. The Birmingham Business Alliance's marketing firm, DCI, can use these types of superlatives to continue to build on the national image of Birmingham.
